Unforgettable Moments: Courtney and Travis’ Wedding at Powel Crosley Estate

Some venues do a lot of the work for you. The Powel Crosley Estate on Sarasota Bay is one of them.

Built in the 1920s as a private winter retreat, the Powel Crosley Estate sits on the waterfront in Bradenton, Florida with the kind of architecture you don’t find at most Florida wedding venues. Spanish Mediterranean details, arched colonnades, ornate woodwork, a courtyard that transforms completely from day to night. It’s a venue that has layers, and the more time you spend there with a camera, the more it gives you. It’s also one of the most in-demand wedding venues in the Sarasota-Bradenton area, booking up well over a year in advance. There’s a reason for that.

One of the most common questions couples ask about the Powel Crosley Estate is whether they need to go all out on decor to make it look beautiful. The answer is no. Courtney and Travis kept their wedding intimate and personal, with minimal decor and floral. And honestly it didn’t matter. The Powel Crosley Estate carries itself. The architecture, the courtyard, the grounds along Sarasota Bay, the venue provides a backdrop that most spaces can’t replicate even with a full production budget. The ceremony took place under the hanging chandelier and string lights. Some venues call for clean and minimal. The Powel Crosley calls for something with a little more drama, and it delivers that on its own.

After the ceremony we moved to the grounds along Sarasota Bay for portraits as the sun dropped. The waterfront at the Powel Crosley Estate is one of those locations that handles any light you throw at it. Late afternoon clouds, golden hour, full dark, it all works. Courtney’s dress with its intricate lace train and long sleeves was made for this venue, and the garden portraits near the estate’s tower show exactly why.

The night portraits in the courtyard were the last thing we shot. Smoke, string lights, the chandelier overhead, the arches behind them. The Powel Crosley Estate after dark is a completely different venue than it is at 4pm, and staying for both is always worth it.
