Getting Married at The Pavilion at Mixon Farms: A Photographer’s Insider Guide

If you are planning a wedding at The Pavilion at Mixon Farms in Bradenton, FL, you are looking at one of the most storied venues in Manatee County. It almost was not here at all, if Manatee County had not stepped in to buy the property in 2025. There is a real chance you would be looking at another gated housing development instead, the same thing that happened right across the street from the farm back in the mid 2000s. Thanks to the county, this land stays open, stays green, and stays available for couples to get married on for generations.

A few things did change with that transition, and a lot of what is online about this venue is outdated. We have been photographing weddings here since 2016, more than 40 of them, and we have stayed close with the county through that transition, so here is everything you actually need to know before you book.

The Story Behind Mixon Farms

Mixon Farms started in 1939 as a small fruit stand on the edge of Willie and Rosa Mixon’s property in Bradenton. Twenty years later the family consolidated several individually owned parcels into one piece of land and put up their first wooden building to store farm and office equipment. From there it grew into a full market, a restaurant, a play park, and a wildlife tour stop. At its peak in 1992 the farm was processing around 400,000 boxes of citrus a year and shipping out a quarter million gift packages, most of them during the Christmas season.

Dean Mixon, grandson of Willie and Rosa, ran the farm with his wife Janet for decades. About ten years before the farm closed, Janet and Dean built a small overlook so visitors could take in the gardens, just a gazebo and a waterfall. Neither of them expected it to become the most booked wedding ceremony site in Bradenton, but that is exactly what happened.

Mixon Fruit Farms closed for good on July 29, 2023, after years of pressure from Hurricane Ian damage, citrus disease, and the economics of running a small citrus operation. The family had already sold off acreage before. Back in the mid 2000s they sold 280 acres across 27th Street to a developer, and that land is the gated community you see there today with homes starting in the high 300 thousands. So when it came time to sell the last 39 acres, Janet and Dean had already watched what happens to farmland once it crosses over to a builder, and they did not want the same thing happening to the property they had left. They listed at 15.8 million dollars but dropped their asking price more than 2 million dollars below appraised value specifically so Manatee County could buy it instead of a developer who had plans for 350 townhouses. The county commission approved the 13.5 million dollar purchase in July 2025, covering the 39 acres, the pavilion, the 38,026 square foot store, and a house on the property. The plan going forward includes a library, a playground, community gardens, and a heritage citrus grove designed as a living museum with historical placards telling the story of citrus farming in Manatee County. Janet Mixon has said plainly that she did not want to see the property’s history erased, and that weddings continuing to happen there mattered to her.

Janet and Dean did not disappear after the sale. They spent the next couple of years running a food truck called the Mixon Swirl, bringing their famous orange and vanilla soft serve and a few cafe favorites out to events around Tampa Bay. They sold the truck to Polk County Sheriff’s Charities in the spring of 2026 and said their official goodbye to it at the Mixon Farms Market. It is a nice detail for couples to know, the same hands that built this place spent years afterward still showing up with ice cream for the community before finally stepping back. And because the county bought this land instead of a developer, that history is still walkable and still standing today rather than existing only in old photos.

The Gazebo and Koi Pond

The classic ceremony spot is under the white gazebo by the Koi pond, surrounded by a rock waterfall and lush gardens, the image most couples picture when they think of this venue. This is the spot that appears in nearly every Mixon wedding gallery, ours included, and it remains exactly as beautiful as it always was.

The Palm Arbor

The property also has an arbor tucked into a cluster of tall palms strung with lights, reached by a winding garden path.It is one of our favorite formal photo spots on the property. It sits right near the butterfly garden and the putting green lawn, so it works beautifully as a quick stop for portraits on the way to cocktail hour.

The Trail to the Waterfall

There is also a wooded trail that runs from the pavilion out toward the rock waterfall by the koi pond, lined with driftwood benches tucked into the greenery. It is quieter and more shaded than the rest of the property, which makes it a great spot for a few candid portraits away from the crowd, sitting on one of those driftwood benches with the trees and ferns closing in around you. We got some wonderful shots along this trail during the style shoot at the grand reopening and it is quickly becoming one of our favorite lesser known spots on the property.

Getting Ready

For getting ready, there is space for both the bride and groom on site, though brides sometimes end up taking over both rooms for the extra space. The string light covered walkway near the getting ready rooms has also been cleaned up since the county took over, the overgrowth has been trimmed back and it now reads as a tidier, more polished version of the pathway you may have seen in older wedding photos, string lights still strung overhead the whole way through.

The Pavilion

The covered pavilion itself is enormous, open on all sides, and strung with a chandelier and overhead lighting, so your reception photographs beautifully whether the sun is out or long gone. It is still the same structure that has hosted Mixon receptions for years, plenty of room to dance the night away under those lights.

Cocktail Hour on the Putting Green

The garden path from the palm arbor and butterfly garden leads out to a putting green lawn area, which the county has renovated along with the nearby playground and walking paths. This lawn does double duty on a typical wedding day. Most couples use it as the cocktail hour spot, which keeps guests spread out and enjoying themselves instead of huddled around the pavilion while we are working through formal photos. Add in the orange grove, the pond with its working fountain, and that sense of being somewhere far from the city while sitting minutes from downtown Bradenton, and you have a property with more distinct backdrops than most venues in the county offer.

What Is No Longer There

A couple of spots that appeared in older wedding photos are no longer there, the vineyard is now parking, and the farmhouse is now staff housing. But between the gazebo, the bamboo forest, the palm arbor, the butterfly garden, the wooded trail to the waterfall, and the pavilion, there is still no shortage of places to say your vows and take photos here

How the Venue Works Now, and Why It Matters

This is the single most important thing to understand about booking Mixon Farms today, and it is where a lot of couples get tripped up by outdated information online. It is also worth understanding as the trade-off that came with saving this land from becoming another housing development, and in our opinion, a very fair trade.

When Janet and Dean ran the property, Mixon Farms operated as a true all-inclusive venue. Catering, coordination, rentals, and a list of preferred vendors were all part of the package, and couples could show up and have almost everything handled for them.

Manatee County runs things differently, and understandably so, a government agency preserving 39 acres of green space is not in the business of running a full service wedding operation. The county provides the venue space itself and a day-of event supervisor (NOT A WEDDING COORDINATOR) who is on site during your event. Their own signage on site lists what your rental includes: the gazebo, the grand pavilion, the pond, a bar and catering kitchen, and the bridal and groom suites. That last part is worth reading closely, the same signage notes that bar and catering services must be externally contracted by the wedding party, which lines up with everything we have told you here. The county does not provide planning, coordination, florals, a DJ, an officiant, or hair and makeup, so you will need to bring in every one of those vendors yourself. The county will tour the space with you, and you can scan the QR code on site, request info on their website, or email mixon@mymanatee.org to check availability and book your date. From there, building the day is on you and whoever you hire to help. Given the alternative was losing this property entirely, that is a small price to pay to keep getting married somewhere this special.

Working with a Team Who Knows Mixon

This makes hiring an experienced coordinator less of a nice to have and more of a necessity. The staff who used to know this property inside and out, who could tell you exactly how the timeline should flow or where the power outlets were, moved on to other work once the all-inclusive model wound down. That institutional knowledge did not disappear though, it moved to the vendors who worked here for years. Brandy at Social B Events is a great example, she was literally the on site event manager at Mixon for years before the transition and knows this property better than almost anyone still working weddings here.

If you want that all-inclusive feeling back, Cheyanne at Shy Chic Boutique offers everything except the venue itself, she brings in the vendors and essentially rebuilds that one stop experience around whatever space you book. We met her at a Mixon wedding years ago, so recommending her for a Mixon wedding today is about as easy a call as we make in this whole guide.

This is also where 40 plus weddings at one venue pays off for you. Some of our most trusted vendor relationships were built right here at Mixon, and we are happy to connect you. Tim at TLS Entertainment and the team at 3C’s Catering are people we met through Mixon weddings and have worked alongside again and again since. So is Tara at Sweets Bakehouse. You will not need to worry about your cake showing up on time or holding up in the Florida heat, she lives right across the street from the pavilion. Other well known vendors we’ve met through weddings at Mixon included Blue Water Catering, who we continue to see regularly at Bakers Ranch, Worthington, and Orange Blossom Barn. DJ KenWa, who DJ’d many events there, and in many other venues.

Worth noting, Manatee County does not designate official preferred vendors for Mixon Farms the way Janet and Dean once did. As a government agency, the county keeps that list open so every couple gets to choose their own team without any vendor being favored over another. So when we recommend people like Brandy, Cheyanne, Tim, or Tara, that is not a preferred vendor badge, it is 40 plus weddings worth of firsthand experience talking. We also happen to live locally and have done other work with Manatee County beyond Mixon over the years, so our connection to this community runs deeper than just the wedding photos.

We are not a preferred vendor here, but we are close partners with Manatee County Explore and Play, the department that runs Mixon Farms today. We worked closely with their team on this very guide to make sure everything here is accurate, and that relationship goes back well before the county ever took ownership of the property.

Our History at Mixon

Mixon Farms is where Ying Multimedia began. Our very first contracted wedding was here in November 2016, for CJ and Ian, in our first years as a wedding-centric photography company. We still get asked about the portrait we captured that day. That first wedding set the tone for how we shoot Mixon weddings ever since, and we have come back more than 40 times since.

This year brought things full circle. Mixon Farms held its grand reopening in March 2026 as a Manatee County community market, and we were there working alongside the Manatee County Explore and Play team, recognized with a First Harvest Vendor award for our years of service to the venue. We have partnered with Manatee County on other projects over the years too, so being invited back to Mixon that day meant a lot, and we were proud to be one of the first wedding vendors back on the property after it reopened to the public. We brought along a previous couple to model for a style shoot that day, and every photo from it was taken by our associates Mariah and James. We have not shot a wedding at Mixon since the reopening yet, but watching our associates step in and capture the venue in its new chapter felt like the whole story coming together.

Should You Book Mixon Farms

If you want a venue with real history, genuine Old Florida character, and grounds that still photograph beautifully, Mixon Farms remains one of the best choices in Manatee County, and we get to keep saying that because the county chose preservation over development. Just go in with the right expectations. This is a venue rental now, not an all-inclusive package, and the couples who have the best experience are the ones who build their vendor team early. Every wedding held here now is proof that the community made the right call in 2025.

Practical Things Worth Knowing

The venue is located at 2525 27th Street East, Bradenton, FL 34208, easy to reach from I-75 and just a short drive from downtown Bradenton, Sarasota, and Lakewood Ranch. Parking is on site, in the same general area where the old vineyard used to stand.

Unlike the all-inclusive days, catering, bar service, florals, a DJ, an officiant, and hair and makeup are not included in your rental and need to be booked separately with outside vendors. The rental itself covers the gazebo, the grand pavilion, the pond, a bar and catering kitchen space for your outside caterer to use, and the bridal and groom suites. You can check availability and book your date by scanning the QR code on the signage on site or emailing mixon@mymanatee.org directly. If you check social media for information, the social media accounts are inactive, and the county DO NOT have access to them, you want to reach out to the county directly for more information.

The rain plan has always been the same here and that has not changed with the county, everything moves under the pavilion, which is large enough to comfortably cover your full guest count if the weather does not cooperate.

One hot tip worth knowing before you book, the only air conditioned spaces on the entire property are the bridal suite and the groom suite. Everything else, the gazebo, the pavilion, the putting green, all of it is open air Florida. That makes this venue a much better fit for a fall, winter, or early spring wedding than the peak of summer, when the heat and humidity will be a real factor for you and your guests for hours at a time.

Since the county only opened the space again in March 2026, there’s still a lot of work they are putting into the space, with multiple county departments involved. This blog will be updated as new space/info becomes available.

Wedding Photographer FAQ: What Every Couple Should Ask Before Booking

We get asked a lot of the same questions during our consulting calls with couples, and honestly, most couples do not know to ask half of them until something goes wrong for a friend. So we put together the questions we think every couple should be asking their photographer, answered exactly the way we would answer them if you were sitting across from us on a call right now.

Before Ying Multimedia was a business, we were just a couple planning our own wedding, sitting on the other side of this exact search trying to figure out who to trust. When our photos finally came back, they were not good. We were handed a single DVD-R, no backups, no online gallery option, nothing. That disc got passed around to family members just to look through, since there was no other way for anyone to see the photos back then. Somewhere along the way it got misplaced, and when we reached out to the photographer, they told us we were their first and last wedding, and that they had already deleted everything on their end. There was nothing left. To this day, the only surviving photos from our wedding day are the ones our family members happened to take on their own point and shoot cameras. That is the exact moment this business was born. We started Ying Multimedia so no other couple would ever have to feel what we felt finding out their wedding day, the one day you cannot redo, was just gone.

Who owns my wedding photos?

You get personal use rights. That means you can use, print, and share your photos for personal use, however and wherever you want. We hold the original copyright, since we are the ones who actually took the photos, and that is true across every package we offer, it does not change based on what you book. This is standard across the industry, not just us. What is worth watching for is how different photographers define “personal use.” Some only let you print through their own lab, or require you to purchase prints directly from them even after you have already paid for the wedding. With us, personal use means you get your full resolution images to download and print wherever you want, no restrictions on which lab you use. Get this clarified with every photographer you interview, not just us. Do not assume “you get your photos” means the same thing from vendor to vendor.

What happens if my photographer gets sick or has an emergency on my wedding day?

Ask this question directly, because the answer tells you everything about how a business is actually run. We are a husband and wife team with associate photographers trained in our style, plus a network of photographers we trust in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. If one of us could not physically make it, there is a plan, not a scramble. Anyone who tells you that has never happened simply has not been doing this long enough. We have actually lived it. We have broken a toe, hurt a back shooting at a venue that was not exactly safe to move around in, and gotten sick right before a wedding, and every single time, we called on our network and made sure the couple was covered without ever knowing how close it came to being a problem. A photographer who cannot give you a real, specific answer to this question, or who brushes it off with “that has never happened,” has not actually thought it through, or has not been in business long enough to have needed the plan yet.

Will you be the photographer at my wedding?

Ask this directly, and get it in writing. There is a shady practice in this industry where marketing firms pour all their money into advertising and building a polished brand, then hire someone off the street to actually shoot the wedding, sometimes someone with very little experience. The most common version of this is not knowing who is actually shooting your wedding until the week of, or finding out that the person who showed up is not the same person you spoke with on your consultation call. Some businesses will even promise you a specific photographer by name, then do a bait and switch closer to the date and send an associate instead without telling you upfront. When you book with us, you know exactly who is showing up, because we tell you directly and we do not switch it on you later.

Is my photographer a registered business or a hobbyist?

This matters more than most couples realize. We are registered through SunBiz as a legitimate Florida business, not someone shooting weddings on the side out of a personal Instagram account. A registered business means there is a paper trail, a tax ID, and accountability if something goes wrong. It also usually means the person has been doing this long enough to treat it like a career, not a hobby that could disappear the week after your wedding.

Does my photographer carry liability insurance?

They should, and you should ask before you book. Most wedding venues actually require the photographer to carry liability insurance to even be allowed on site, especially venues with equipment restrictions or historic properties. A photographer without insurance is a risk to the venue and a risk to you if equipment damages property or someone gets hurt during a shoot. It is one of the fastest ways to tell a serious professional from someone who is not fully set up to run a business.

What does a low retainer actually signal?

Industry standard for a wedding photography retainer is usually around 50 percent. We intentionally offer 20 percent instead, due within 14 days of accepting your quote, because we want booking us to come down to commitment, not a financial hurdle. That said, a retainer that seems unusually low elsewhere, or a photographer offering no retainer at all, is worth a second look. A retainer is what makes a photographer financially invested in your date. A photographer with nothing on the line has a higher chance of canceling on you if a better opportunity comes along, simply because there is no money committed to showing up. A retainer protects both sides. It secures your date on our end, and it holds us accountable on yours.

What happens to my photos if the photography business closes?

This is an uncomfortable question, but a fair one, especially with how many photography businesses come and go. If we ever closed, we are committed to honoring the two year gallery hosting we promise every couple, even if it costs us a few thousand dollars out of pocket to keep those servers running with no business left generating income. That might sound like an odd thing to commit to on paper, but it is not really a business decision, it is the reason we started this in the first place. We know what it feels like to lose wedding memories, and we are not willing to let that happen to another couple just because our doors closed. Ask any photographer you are considering what actually happens to your gallery if their business does not make it. If they do not have a real answer, that is worth knowing before you book, not after.

Why do engagement sessions matter?

An engagement session is not just a bonus photo shoot, it is a rehearsal for how you and your photographer work together. It is the first time we are photographing you as a couple outside of a wedding day timeline, and it lets you get comfortable in front of the camera before the day that actually matters most. Couples who do an engagement session before their wedding are almost always more relaxed and natural in front of the lens on the big day, because they have already done it once. It also works the other way around. That time together is how we learn how you two actually interact, who leans into the camera and who needs a little coaxing, what makes you laugh for real. We carry all of that into your wedding day, which means we know how to read you and get natural reactions instead of posed ones when it counts most. An engagement session is also the first time most couples actually see themselves in our work, not just examples of other couples on our website. Seeing your own photos come back and looking exactly like the images you fell in love with on our page removes the doubt. Instead of hoping it works out the way you pictured it, you walk into your wedding day already knowing it will. We had a bride tell us in a WeddingWire review that she had always felt awkward in photos, and still ended up saying she and her husband looked amazing in theirs. That is the engagement session doing its job.

What happens to my photos between the wedding and delivery?

Ask this before you book, not after something goes wrong before your gallery even arrives. We back up every wedding the same night it happens, and your photos exist in three places at once from that point forward until your full gallery has been delivered to you. We do not clear or reuse the memory cards until after your gallery has been fully delivered and confirmed, no exceptions. That means we are sitting on a lot of cards at any given time, which is exactly why we have heavily invested in memory cards over the last 10 years. We own hundreds and hundreds of them at this point. It is not a small investment, but it is one we keep making so that this process never breaks, because the alternative is having to call a couple and tell them their memories are gone, and that is not a conversation we are ever willing to have. That gap between your wedding day and delivery is exactly when photos are most at risk with a photographer who does not have a real backup process, so ask specifically how and when backups actually happen, and when their memory cards actually get cleared, not just that a backup process exists.

How long does a photographer keep my photos after delivery?

Ask this before you book, not after the photos already got misplaced. We hear it constantly. A full wedding gallery is huge, often 10 to 15 gigabytes, and fewer and fewer couples actually own a computer with the space to hold it, especially with how expensive computers and their internal storage have gotten. That means fewer couples have anywhere to actually keep their entire wedding day once it is delivered to them, which makes what happens on our end after delivery even more important. Once your gallery is delivered, the original catalog goes into cold storage on our end, so if you ever reach out years later needing your files again, or if something happens and your online gallery is not available for any reason, we still have it. This is not a policy we just talk about. Our very first wedding is still sitting in cold storage, and that couple’s gallery is still live and accessible online right now. On top of that, we commit to keeping your online gallery live for at least two years after your wedding, so if you lose your USB drive, run out of space, or misplace the download, your photos are not gone. Get this clarified specifically, because plenty of photographers only host your online gallery for 30 to 90 days before it comes down for good. Online hosting costs money, and rotating galleries down quickly is an easy way to save on that cost, but it means your window to redownload anything can close a lot sooner than couples expect. Ask exactly how long your gallery stays live, not just whether one exists.

What does culling actually mean?

Culling is the process of going through every single photo taken during your wedding and selecting the best ones to edit and deliver, cutting out blinks, duplicates, and unusable shots. A wedding day can produce thousands of raw images, and no couple wants three versions of the same handshake. Culling is where a photographer’s eye actually matters, because it is a judgment call on what tells your story best, not just a technical sort. Take your first kiss as an example. That single moment might produce 20 to 30 frames as we burst through it to catch every angle. You do not want all 30 of those in your gallery. You want the 3 to 5 that actually capture it best from a few different angles, so the moment feels special every time you look at it instead of repetitive.

Does my photographer limit how many photos I get, or make me pick favorites before they edit?

Ask this before you book, because some photographers will not start editing until you go through your raw gallery and pick a set number of photos yourself, then only those get fully edited. We do not play that game. We do not limit how many photos you receive, and we do not make you do the work of picking favorites out of thousands of raw images before we will edit anything. Every photo that makes it into your final gallery gets fully edited by us for color, sharpness, skin tone, and balance, not just the ones you were forced to shortlist. If a photographer’s pricing depends on how many photos you are willing to sit down and select yourself, that is worth asking about directly before you sign anything.

Does my photographer edit their own photos, or is it outsourced?

Ask this directly, because it changes the consistency of what you get back. Outsourcing editing and culling to overseas labor in places like Eastern Europe or Asia is common in the industry, since it is the most time consuming part of a wedding and low cost labor makes it cheaper to offer. It is not inherently a bad practice, but it means someone who was not at your wedding is making creative decisions about how your photos look. We keep it all in house. Every photo is edited by us, and every video is edited by Jo, so the people who were actually standing next to you during your first look are the same people deciding how that moment gets processed.

Does my photographer reuse the same memory cards across different weddings?

Ask this one specifically, because it is easy to overlook and it is where a lot of real disasters actually start. If a photographer is reusing the same small set of cards week after week, formatting and reloading them for the next wedding before your gallery has even been fully confirmed, one bad card, one accidental overwrite, or one corruption issue can wipe out footage from multiple different couples at once, not just yours. That is exactly why we do not do it. Every wedding gets its own dedicated set of cards, and that set does not get touched again until your gallery has been fully delivered and confirmed. One wedding, one set of cards, no exceptions, no sharing cards across different couples’ weddings.

Does my photographer’s camera equipment actually matter?

It matters more than most couples think to ask about. Your wedding day happens once. There is no redo if something goes wrong with a single point of failure, and a memory card is exactly that if a photographer is only shooting to one card at a time. Every camera we shoot with writes to two SD cards simultaneously, so if one card fails, gets corrupted, or gets lost, the same photos are already sitting safely on the second card. Here is the part that trips couples up. Plenty of professional cameras come with two card slots built in, but with memory card prices climbing, some photographers only load one card and leave the second slot empty to save money. Having a dual slot camera means nothing if it is not actually being used in dual write mode. Ask your photographer directly whether their camera writes to both cards at the same time during your wedding, not just whether their camera is capable of it.

Do camera lenses and lighting gear matter as much as the camera itself?

Yes, especially once the sun goes down. Lenses matter just as much as the camera body, particularly in low light. The same way a phone camera struggles once the sun goes down, a professional camera needs low aperture lenses, meaning a low f-stop number, to actually gather enough light and produce a clean, sharp image once the lights dim. Let’s be honest, most reception venues are low light by design, because that is what makes them feel romantic. That is exactly why we do not rely on the lens alone. We bring our own LED lighting, flash, strobes, and pocket lights to every wedding, so your reception photos still look bright, sharp, and full of color instead of grainy and dark just because the room’s ambient lighting was not built for photography.

RAW vs JPEG, and does it matter for my wedding photos?

Think of it like tacos. A RAW file is the raw beef, the taco seasoning, the fresh toppings, all the individual ingredients sitting there with full potential but nothing finished yet. A JPEG is the plate of 3 beautiful tacos already built and served. The tacos might look great, but once they are plated, you cannot go back and adjust how much seasoning is in the meat or swap out an ingredient. RAW gives a photographer that same flexibility with your photos, the ability to still adjust exposure, color, and detail after the fact, without breaking anything down. JPEGs are compressed, and the camera itself processes and finishes the image the moment it is taken, which locks in a lot of decisions before a photographer ever gets to edit anything. We shoot RAW on every wedding for exactly this reason. It is more work on the back end, but it means we can recover a shot in tricky lighting instead of losing it.

Does my venue’s lighting actually affect my wedding photos?

Yes, more than most couples expect. Venues with poor ceremony lighting, mixed color temperatures, or heavy overhead fluorescents create real challenges that good gear alone cannot fully solve. We bring auxiliary lighting to every wedding, because relying only on ambient light at a dim reception is how you end up with grainy, flat photos. Ask your photographer how they handle low light venues specifically, not just what camera they use.

Is back to back wedding booking a red flag?

Not on its own. Shooting weddings on consecutive days is common and not a problem by itself, plenty of experienced photographers handle it fine. What actually matters is turnaround time. The real question is whether a photographer who is booking back to back weddings, sometimes stacking up a backlog of several in a row, can still deliver your gallery in a reasonable timeframe without rushing the editing to catch up. Ask about their turnaround time directly, and ask how it holds up during their busiest stretches, not just what their calendar looks like around your date.

What is a shot list, and how long should it actually be?

A shot list is a reference list of specific photos a couple wants captured, usually family combinations, key details, and personal must haves. It should be focused, not exhaustive. A shot list with 150 items turns your wedding day into a checklist exercise instead of documentary storytelling, and it eats into time that should be spent capturing real moments as they happen. The last thing you want is a real, unrepeatable documentary moment unfolding right in front of us while we are heads down reading through a list for the hundredth time making sure we hit every single item on it. That moment does not wait for us to finish checking boxes. We ask couples for the important non negotiables and family groupings, then trust our documentary approach to capture everything else authentically.

Should I hire a second shooter for my wedding?

A second shooter covers angles and moments the primary photographer physically cannot be in two places for at once, like the groom’s reaction during the first look while the bride is walking down the aisle. We actually experienced this firsthand at our own wedding. We got ready in two different locations, and a single photographer simply cannot be in both places at once, which means one of those moments gets missed entirely. That is exactly why every package we offer includes two photographers, not just our higher tier packages. With two photographers covering both sides of your day at the same time, your gallery comes back to you in chronological order showing what each of you were doing simultaneously, and it is often where the most serendipitous, unplanned moments end up getting caught, the ones neither of you even knew happened until you see them in the gallery. One couple put it well in a Zola review of ours, describing how Bill covered the boys getting ready while Rachel covered the girls at the same time, so no special moment was missed before they ever saw each other.

Do you offer wedding videography, or just photography?

We added video to our offering in 2025, which is actually why we rebranded from Ying Photography to Ying Multimedia. Our lead cinematographer Jo runs our video side, and every video package can be booked alongside photography or on its own. If a photographer you are considering only offers stills, ask whether they have a videographer they actually work with regularly, or whether you would be coordinating two separate vendors on your own on the busiest day of your life.

Why did you bring video in house instead of just referring couples to an outside videographer?

For years, we either worked alongside outsourced videographers or watched couples book their own separate videographer entirely on their own. What we kept running into was the same problem. Each business is focused on delivering their best work and hitting their own goals for the day, and when two teams who have never really worked together are both trying to do that at the same time, the team mentality can go out the window fast. We ended up in each other’s shots more than we would like to admit, both sides competing for the same angle instead of working around each other.

A good example is the recessional. The couple is walking back down the aisle as newlyweds, and both photo and video want that same center aisle angle to capture it head on. More often than not, that meant a videographer’s camera or hands showing up right in our photo frame, or the other way around. With Jo, we solved it by shooting over his shoulder. He gets his center aisle video angle, and we get ours from just behind him, completely out of each other’s frame, both of us still getting the exact same moment. That kind of coordination only works because we have shot dozens of weddings side by side with Jo and know exactly how he moves in a moment like that.

Unless you have actually worked with a videographer before, you have no idea how they are going to behave once the ceremony starts, and that unpredictability can cause real problems beyond just a blocked shot. We shot a wedding once where the couple had hired their videographer separately, at a church ceremony, and that videographer walked straight into the altar area to get a better angle. It upset the priest so much that he pulled us aside privately after the ceremony and asked for the videographer’s contact information, specifically so that person would never be allowed in that church again. That is the kind of risk you are taking on when you book photo and video separately with vendors who have never worked together and do not know each other’s boundaries.

Bringing video in house with Jo as our lead cinematographer solved all of this. We know how each other move and think on a wedding day, and our work looks consistent because we are actually a team, not two vendors who happened to get booked for the same date.

What does wedding video actually capture that photos can’t?

Photos give you a moment frozen in time, but video gives you the sound of it. Your vows in your own voice, the exact words of the best man’s toast, the song playing during your first dance, the specific way the room sounded when you walked in as a married couple. Photos are incredible for reliving how your wedding looked. Video is what lets you hear your grandfather’s speech again in twenty years, not just see a photo of him giving it.

Can I book both a photographer and a videographer through the same team?

Yes, and we would actually recommend it over booking separately. You can bundle Jo with either of our teams, us directly as Bill and Rachel, or our associate photographers Mariah and James, for a complete photo and video package coordinated under one team that already works together and knows how to stay out of each other’s shots. When your photographer and videographer have never worked a wedding together before, you sometimes end up with both of them competing for the same angle during your first look. That does not happen when they are used to working side by side.

Some weddings are events. This one was an experience.

Vida and Evan’s wedding day started before the sun was fully up and didn’t slow down until well past midnight. Eighteen hours of getting ready, praying, dancing, performing, laughing, crying, and celebrating with two families who poured everything they had into a single day. Evan’s Mexican heritage and Vida’s Filipino roots came together in a celebration that honored both cultures fully, not as a compromise but as a testament to everything they each brought to this marriage.

Both Vida and Evan work in the medical field. They are people who are used to long, demanding days. Even so, an 18-hour wedding day is a different kind of endurance. They handled every single minute of it with grace.

We were there from the very first moment to the very last.

The details told the story before the day even began. His vows booklet, her rosary. His Bleu de Chanel, her arras coins. Two people, two cultures, every detail intentional.

The morning started at an Airbnb as Vida’s whole crew surrounded her in matching pink satin sets, the energy already high before the sun had fully risen. Hair by DS Hair & Makeup Creations LLC and makeup by Slayed By Jael gave Vida a look that was radiant from every angle.

Vida and Evan got ready about ten minutes apart from each other that morning, two locations running simultaneously before the day even officially started. This is exactly why we work as a team. While Rachel was with Vida capturing the pink satin sets, the details, and the quiet anticipation of the morning, Bill was across town with Evan and the guys. Nothing was missed on either side. When Vida wrote a year later that she was amazed we captured moments she never even realized were happening, this is part of how that works. Two photographers, two locations, one complete story.

This is the photo that stopped us.

Evan walked down the aisle with his mother, who carried a framed portrait of his father. He walked to the altar with both of them. That moment, captured quietly and without interruption, is one of the most meaningful images we have ever made.

She carried them with her too. Three portrait charms attached to her bouquet, family members who could not be there in person but were present in every other way.

Before Vida walked down the aisle, she received the mano po blessing from her father, a deeply rooted Filipino gesture of respect and gratitude. Her mother stood beside her in traditional Filipino dress.

The ceremony was a full Filipino Catholic Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice, a church full of history and light.

Vida and Evan knelt together before the Virgin Mary in a quiet moment between vows. The stained glass beside them was glowing. And then it was official.

We stole them for a few minutes after the ceremony. Evan had the cowboy hat back on before we even asked.

They understood how meaningful these traditions were to our families and made sure they captured them beautifully.

Vida planned for over 400 guests and left six tables unnamed. Not a mistake. She simply knew her people well enough to expect the uninvited to show up anyway. They did.

Poncho’s Decorations and Events transformed the Venice Community Center into something that felt celebratory and intentional. Gold glitter runners, white candles, white draping from the ceiling.

The first dance entrance set the tone immediately. Clouds on the floor, cold sparks firing, the whole room watching.

At some point in the evening they grabbed microphones. This is that moment.

The performances were the kind of moments you feel in your chest. Family members performing for family members. Cultural traditions moving through a room full of people who understood exactly what they meant.

Vida also had friends in Manila who couldn’t make the trip. So they made sure they were there anyway. Recorded videos and a live stream brought them into the room, friends thousands of miles away celebrating in real time as if they were standing right there on the dance floor. In a room already full of two cultures and two families coming together, somehow the Philippines showed up too.

At some point during the night the flags came out. Evan wrapped in the Philippine flag. Vida in the Mexican one. Both of them on the dance floor together. One photo. Two countries. One family.

When Mariachi Hernandez Tampa took the floor, Evan’s Mexican heritage filled the room with sound. The whole room erupted. Two cultures, one dance floor, zero hesitation.

The food told the rest of the story. Manila Eats and Tina’s Kusina brought authentic Filipino flavors that had people going back for seconds and thirds. And then there was the lechon, the whole roasted pig from Donyol’s and Bong’s Lechon. A grazing table by Ocean Sands Events and Spunky Spirits Bartending Services kept everyone going from cocktail hour to the very end. DJ Junior Salazar and MC Emilio Cruz kept the energy exactly where it needed to be.

Even after such a long day, they never looked tired or rushed. They stayed engaged, attentive, and continued capturing every important moment as if it were the beginning of the day.

Late in the evening, long after most photographers would have called it a night, we found a quiet moment with them outside under the trees.

This is what all-day coverage actually means. Not showing up for the ceremony and leaving after the first dance. It means staying until the last moment matters, because they all do.

And then it was over. A sparkler exit and eighteen hours of memories preserved for a lifetime.

A Year Later

Getting Married at Bakers Ranch: A Photographer’s Insider Guide

If you’re considering Bakers Ranch for your wedding, you’re in good hands. Our team at Ying Multimedia is a preferred photography and videography vendor at Bakers Ranch, and we’ve photographed and filmed weddings on these grounds since 2017. There’s a reason we keep coming back. This place has a story, a soul, and a team behind it that genuinely cares about every couple who walks through the door. We shoot documentary and editorial style: real moments, real emotion, and intentional portraits that feel found rather than directed. Bakers Ranch is one of the few venues in Florida where every corner of the property gives you something genuinely cinematic to work with. Here’s everything we’d want you to know before your big day.

The Story Behind the Name

Bakers Ranch didn’t get its name from a family surname. It got it from Alla, the original owner, who was a professional cake maker. Wedding cakes, celebration cakes, baking was her craft and her passion. When we first started photographing weddings here, there were still signs along the fence advertising her cakes. The front office building you walk into when you arrive for a tour was Alla and her husband Boris’s home, and tucked behind it past the pool, her brick baking oven still stands as its own structure. Boris was the first one to start building what Alla dreamed of, and his hands are in many parts of this venue. He’s still around today, and when you walk these grounds you’re walking through something that two people built together from the ground up.

Alla passed away a few years ago, and the loss was felt deeply by everyone who knew her and knew this place. We had the honor of attending her celebration of life, held right here at the venue she built. Her son Alex now runs Bakers Ranch, carrying forward everything she created. To this day, every time we share a Bakers Ranch wedding on social media, we tag Alla’s Facebook profile. It’s a small thing, but it’s our way of making sure she’s still part of every celebration that happens on the grounds she loved.

There’s something about knowing this place started as someone’s home, someone’s hands, that gives it a warmth most venues simply can’t manufacture. When you get married at Bakers Ranch, you’re celebrating in a place that was built on love long before you arrived.

What “All Inclusive” Actually Means Here

A lot of venues use the phrase “all inclusive” loosely. At Bakers Ranch, it means something real. The only things not included in your package are your photographer, cinematographer, makeup artist, officiant, and lunch on the day of. That’s it. Everything else is handled.

The venue comfortably fits 100 to 150 guests within the Ranch House. They can technically accommodate up to 200, but at that size some elements like catering may need to move to the outdoor patio space, so it’s worth having that conversation with their team early if you’re expecting a larger crowd.

For couples who have spent any time trying to coordinate vendors independently, the all-inclusive model here is a genuine relief. For our photography and cinematography team, it means the day runs smoother than almost anywhere else we shoot.

The Staff Ratio Is Unlike Anything Else

This is something couples don’t fully appreciate until the day of. Most venues have one or two coordinators running the whole show. Bakers Ranch brings in a main coordinator plus a team of 3 to 5 assistants handling everything from parking to security to bar service to setup and breakdown, and the catering team adds another 5 to 9 staff on top of that. On your wedding day, you have a small army working behind the scenes to make sure everything runs on time and on point. We’ve watched their team flip a ceremony space to reception setup in minutes when a Florida afternoon storm rolled in. It runs like a well-oiled machine, and in all the years we’ve shot here, we’ve never seen it fail.

What makes it different from other well-run venues is that the care here is genuine. Alex doesn’t just manage from a distance. He still works hands-on at many of the weddings, and we’ve seen him standing at the side of the aisle grinning ear to ear as a couple walked toward each other. That’s not something you can train into a staff. It comes from the top, and it filters through every person on that team. Couples who get married at Bakers Ranch aren’t just clients. They’re welcomed like family, and you can feel it from the moment you arrive for your tour to the moment you walk out as newlyweds.

We’ll leave you with one story that says it better than anything else could. At a recent wedding, a guest clogged the toilets before the reception started. A plumber couldn’t arrive in time. While the venue staff moved quickly to clean everything up, Alex was outside personally clearing the blockage himself so the reception could start on schedule. The couple knew something had gone wrong. What they also knew was that it got handled, completely and without drama, because the person who built this place wasn’t going to let anything ruin their day. That’s Bakers Ranch.

The Four Ceremony Sites

One of the most common questions we get about Bakers Ranch is which ceremony site to choose. After weddings here across our photography and cinematography work, here’s our honest take on each one.

Love Lock Bridge is a wooden footbridge tucked beneath one of the most spectacular oak trees on the property, draped in Spanish moss and surrounded by lush ferns. The fence along the bridge is lined with locks that past couples have placed there, each one engraved with names and a wedding date, a nod to the love lock tradition from Paris and Curacao. Many couples bring their own custom lock and place it during portraits, and that detail shot alone is worth the stop. We’ve photographed two wedding ceremonies here specifically after dark, and with nothing but the twinkle lights overhead and the oak canopy above, the images look like something out of a film. One of those weddings flipped the entire order of the day: cocktail hour and welcome drinks first, then the reception, then the ceremony after dark, then open dancing to close the night on New Year’s Eve, where they lowered the chandelier like a New Year’s ball drop. It was one of the most unique wedding day flows we’ve ever photographed, and Love Lock Bridge made it work beautifully. If you want romance, warmth, and something a little unexpected, this is your spot.

Enchanted Garden Chapel is anchored by one of the most photographed features on the entire property: a set of massive arched wooden doors with ornate wrought iron ironwork, set into a marble-textured stone wall flanked by gas lamp posts and topped with a Roman numeral clock. Even outside of ceremony use, these doors are a portrait location on their own. We shoot couples in front of them at every hour of the day, and the warm glow of the gas lamps at night turns the whole facade into something that looks straight out of Europe. The chapel itself gives you that classic, formal ceremony aesthetic without a traditional religious setting, and the marble texture and pillars built for florals photograph and film beautifully in almost any light. It’s also our go-to spot for family formals when couples want that traditional, churchy portrait feel. The architecture gives those photos a weight and elegance that’s hard to replicate anywhere else on the property.

Infinity Forest sits directly across from the Enchanted Garden Chapel and is built around a circular arch of twisted branches and greenery, framed by lush plants and pathway lights that illuminate the space after dark. The branches come from the property itself, and the staff continuously replace them as they naturally break down over time. That means the arch looks a little different at every single wedding, and no two couples have ever had the exact same backdrop. During the day it’s slightly shaded, which makes it one of the best spots on the property for dress shots since the fabric has room to spread and the light is soft and even. At night the pathway lights and the arch itself create a naturally lit frame that makes night formals here genuinely special. We’ve shot couples doing a dip inside that arch with a smoke machine rolling behind them and the result looks like a movie poster. This is the spot for couples who want woodsy, whimsical, or a fae-inspired aesthetic, and it delivers at every hour of the day.

Ancient Oaks is the most expansive of the four sites. The walkway here is one of the longest on the property, which makes it ideal for brides with cathedral trains or anyone who wants that dramatic processional moment. It’s also the most open to natural light, especially since several of the large oaks were lost in recent hurricanes. If you want full sunlight and a grand forest feel, this is your spot, and the processional footage from this aisle is some of the most cinematic we’ve captured at the venue.

The Pathway Between the Chapel and the Forest

The walkway that connects the Enchanted Garden Chapel and Infinity Forest is where some of our most iconic Bakers Ranch shots happen. Lined with tall gas lamp posts on both sides, the pathway is beautiful during the day and transforms completely at night when the lamps glow warm against the deep blue sky and the hedges light up green behind them. We’ve shot couples walking hand in hand down this path, laid them down on the aisle for drone shots with a cathedral train spread wide across the stones, and captured some of our most editorial portraits right here between two ceremony sites. Inside the Ranch House

The Tudor-style Ranch House is where your reception happens, and it earns its reputation. The ballroom is draped in flowing white fabric from the ceiling with twinkle lights woven throughout, giving it an elegant, tented feel that works beautifully with any color scheme. Three chandeliers hang in the space, and here’s the detail most couples don’t know until they’re standing in it for the first time: all three are on winches and can be lowered during your first dance, dropping right down to eye level above you as you share that moment. We’ve seen the room transform completely when that happens, and on video it creates one of those moments couples watch back again and again. Add the dance on the clouds fog machine as an upgrade and you get something that looks like the two of you are literally floating, with the balcony framed behind you and the chandelier glowing above. We’ve photographed that combination more times than we can count and it never gets old. The Ranch House is fully air conditioned, with dedicated split units in the ballroom and in each getting-ready space. That matters more than people expect for a Florida wedding.

The Gondola Area and Outdoor Patio

Just outside the Ranch House is an open timber pergola strung with Edison bulb string lights, which the venue calls the gondola area. During cooler months and winter weddings this space is incredible. Couples bring in lounge furniture, use it for cocktail hour, or turn it into an overflow reception area with its own atmosphere. We’ve photographed first dances out here underneath the pergola and the warm glow of the string lights overhead, and the results are some of the most editorial shots we’ve ever gotten at the venue. The floral team has also used this space for hanging installations, suspended blooms, and dramatic ceiling arrangements that the indoor ballroom simply can’t accommodate. For couples who want that indoor-outdoor flow, the gondola area makes it possible.

The Balcony

The Ranch House has a second floor balcony that overlooks the entire ballroom, and it is one of the most underused portrait spots at the venue. From below, shooting up at a couple on the balcony with the draped ceiling and chandelier behind them is a genuinely stunning image. From above, the couple can look out over their guests and the full reception setup while we shoot from the floor looking up. We use the balcony both ways on almost every wedding here. It also connects directly to the Groom’s Cave, which means the guys often get their first real glimpse of the decorated ballroom from up there before they ever walk down to the floor.

The Getting Ready Spaces

The bridal suite has its own private bathroom, which keeps the morning running smoothly when you have a large party. For bigger bridal parties, a heads up: if your group is large enough, you may end up taking over both prep spaces, which means the groom and his guys will need to get ready offsite. It’s worth planning for this early so no one is surprised on the day.

The Groom’s Cave is genuinely one of the best groom spaces we’ve seen at any venue we shoot at regularly. There’s a pool table for the guys to relax, a balcony that looks directly down into the ballroom, and enough breathing room that the getting-ready portraits don’t feel cramped. We’ve gotten some of our favorite groom prep shots on that balcony, and Jo has captured some great candid moments of the guys up there too, especially when they catch their first glimpse of the room coming together below.

As a preferred photography and videography vendor at Bakers Ranch, we offer both wedding photography and full cinematography here, and having called this venue home since 2017, we know exactly where the light falls at every hour, which ceremony sites work best for different aesthetics, and how to work with the venue’s staff to make sure nothing gets missed.

Every wedding we shoot at Bakers Ranch has two photographers on the ground. Always. Bill covers the bride and Rachel covers the groom from the moment getting ready begins. That means you never have to choose which story gets told. Both of your mornings, the quiet moments, the nervous laughs, the first look at each other in the mirror, all of it is captured simultaneously and delivered in one chronological gallery that tells the full day from both sides. Most photographers can’t do that. We built our whole approach around it. Our associate photographers Mariah and James work the same way, and they bring that same two-photographer simultaneous coverage to every wedding they shoot together.

If you want video alongside your photos, our lead cinematographer Jo joins the team as a third creative on your day. He captures everything photos can’t fully hold: the sound of your vows, the laughter during speeches, the ambient feel of the room during your first dance, and the send-off. Adding cinematography doesn’t change how we shoot. It just means your day gets told in two formats instead of one, and at Bakers Ranch, where every space is cinematic by nature, the combination is hard to beat.

The Hidden Portrait Spots Most Couples Don’t Know About

After years of shooting weddings here, we’ve found corners of this property that most couples never see on a tour. These are the spots we bring couples to when we want something different.

Beyond the tree line at the back of the property, past the manicured grounds, there is a cleared path that opens into a deep wooded area that feels completely removed from the rest of the venue. There’s a swing back there surrounded by natural Florida forest and hanging moss. It’s walkable and accessible but feels like you’ve stepped off the grid entirely. We’ve shot some of our most emotional and intimate portraits in that space.

Between the Infinity Forest and Ancient Oaks there is another swing, this one more visible and styled, backed by lush hedges and surrounded by the manicured grounds. It’s a natural stop between ceremony sites and works beautifully for bridal party shots, bridesmaid portraits, or quiet couple moments in between the bigger formal groupings.

The tree line path that runs along the edge of the property is another one. Dense greenery on both sides, dappled light filtering through, the feeling of being inside the forest without actually leaving the venue. We shoot through the foliage from the path and the natural framing it creates is the kind of thing that looks planned but is actually just the property doing what it does.

And the Infinity Forest arch itself, even before the wedding party arrives, is worth a dress shot. Hung from the center of that branch arch with the lush hedges and gas lamps framing the background, a wedding dress photo there is one of the most editorial detail shots we get at Bakers Ranch.

Bakers Ranch After Dark

Most couples tour Bakers Ranch during the day. They see the grounds in daylight, fall in love with the ceremony sites and the ballroom, and book based on that. What they don’t see until their actual wedding night is an entirely different venue.

We hear it at nearly every Bakers Ranch wedding we shoot. The couple and their guests stepping outside after dinner and stopping when they see it. Comments about how beautiful it looks. How different it feels. How they had no idea. The Ancient Oaks lit from below in deep purple and teal with fairy lights cascading through the Spanish moss. The Infinity Forest arch glowing warm against the dark hedgerow. The gondola area with its Edison bulbs reflected in the rain-soaked patio stones. Bakers Ranch at night is something most couples only discover on their wedding day, and we think that should change.

Once the sun goes down this property transforms completely, and we always make sure our couples get to experience it through their photos. The Love Lock Bridge after dark with just the twinkle lights overhead, the chapel doors lit by the gas lamps, the Infinity Forest arch the twinkle lights, the pathway glowing between the gas lamp posts against the night sky. These are editorial, cinematic images that simply don’t exist in daylight. We’ve had couples tell us their favorite and iconic photos from their entire wedding were taken late in the evening when most photographers had already packed up and left.

Practical Things Worth Knowing

The venue is located at 5015 Fort Hamer Road in Parrish, FL 34219, just minutes from I-75. Parking is plentiful and attended, so guests won’t be circling or walking long distances. Catering is offered buffet style or sit-down, with the sit-down option available for an additional cost. The floral budget is included and designed in a private session with their floral team. Add-ons like a dance-on-the-clouds fog effect and a photo booth are also available if you want to go bigger on the reception experience.

And if the weather turns, because this is Florida and it will at some point try, Bakers Ranch has a covered plan B space at no additional charge. Their team can pivot quickly, and we mean that literally. We’ve watched them do it more than once.

Gina and Jeremy came in knowing exactly who they are, people of faith who also happen to love music festivals, adventure, and a reception that goes until nobody can dance anymore. We were here for all of it.

The day started with a beautiful ceremony at Suncoast Baptist Church in Palmetto, grounded in faith and filled with genuine emotion. Then the night took a hard turn toward electric. Court Langley Ranch was transformed into something we honestly didn’t expect to walk into, EDM beats, laser lighting by Laser Fox, and an energy that had every single guest on their feet. It was one of those receptions where you just keep shooting because something incredible keeps happening.

Katie & Kyle | A Bradenton Love Story at The Pavilion at Mixon Farms

Normally we meet clients over coffee to talk through their wedding day plans. We already knew this one would be different when Katie and Kyle asked to meet us for lunch instead.

Two Bradenton Kids Who Never Left

Katie and Kyle both grew up in Bradenton, and it shows in how they talk about this city. Katie works within the Manatee County healthcare system, and brings that same warmth and steadiness into every room she walks into. Kyle matches her with an easy sense of humor and the kind of quiet confidence that puts everyone around him at ease.

When it came time to plan their engagement session, there was no question where it would happen. They wanted their hometown in every frame, so we started the shoot at O’Brick’s, where the staff greeted them with hugs before we even got a single photo. That is Bradenton for you, and that is Katie and Kyle.

Why They Chose Mixon Farms

For the wedding itself, they chose The Pavilion at Mixon Farms, the historic citrus grove venue that has hosted more Bradenton weddings than almost anywhere else in Manatee County. Katie and Kyle said their vows surrounded by friends and family in the lush garden greenery, with the pavilion lit up behind them for the reception that followed.

We have photographed dozens of weddings at Mixon Farms over the years, and Katie and Kyle’s day is one that has stuck with us, the kind of ceremony that reflects exactly who the couple is rather than following someone else’s template.

The Wedding Day

Their day was full of laughter and plenty of happy tears, but what stood out most was how much it felt like them. We spent the day watching two people who have known this city their whole lives finally become husband and wife in the middle of it, surrounded by the people who watched them grow up.
